Have I mentioned I like staying in hostels?
Ok, so yesterday I decided to go downstairs to the common area here at Tanaka’s Hostel in Kyoto. Sitting at the table was Pablo who hails from Seville, Spain however he is traveling Japan while his Japanese wife, whom he met in Ireland, is visiting her parents for the month just south of here. His two friends, Luis and Antonio, are visiting for a couple of weeks. Pablo invited me out with the guys so we stepped down the street to a British themed place for a bit and engaged in conversation with a couple of Kyoto locals, one of which wanted to practice her English. So who better to teach her than me right? I could hear your eyes roll. It was really funny talking with her. She works at a hotel and wanted more things to say to English customers and more questions to ask them. I would explain a few things to her carefully and trying to not use slang, and it was clear that she didn’t understand even though she would say “Ahhhhhhh yes yes.” She also said her schooling was in psychology and that is ultimately what she wanted to do long term. I think that’s awesome.
But the guys are first-class dudes. Pablo is clearly the ring leader, the one that wants to go go go. Antonio is a super nice dude. Luis is as well, sadly he only speaks Spanish and sadly I only speak English, but thanks to Google Translate, we were able to talk throughout the evening.
