Rainy Zurich

One thing I can say about Zurich is that their weather people seem to be pretty accurate. The forecast called for rain this morning and I woke up to the sound of thunder and rain.

Thankfully I got to walk around yesterday and took a few pictures while I got lost on the tram and while finding a place to stay.

I had booked, or so I thought, a stay at the Old Town Hostel however when I arrived they told me they were full. Truthfully I figured something didn't work right during the booking process as I never got an email confirmation.

No big deal so I booked a night at a hotel up the street. Truthfully it was nice to have my own room at last for a night to air out clothes, do some laundry in the sink(yep. I'm that kind of guy), and just chill out. The drawback is that I feel a little more isolated than I'd like. But being at least partially introverted(62% to be exact according to the Meyers Briggs test) I need some time to myself to recharge. So that's what I'm doing this morning until checkout.

Everyone I've come into contact here has been super friendly and spoken at least decent English. I ended up going down to the hostel to just hang out last night and mer some good guys all of which were from the the US except Daniel who had just moved here from Germany. Rina, the cafe waitress, was a lot of fun too.

Couple interesting things about Zurich:
Like a lot of European cities, public transportation is massive, clean, and quiet.

I love the bike pumps on the street. That says a lot about the kind of city Zurich seems to be

There are also tons of public drinking water fountains. I saw a guy filling up a water bottle at one and then another drink straight from one. I figured, "Hey, when in Zurich right?" So I decided to take a drink as well. The guy before me made it look easy as I came up from the fountain with a very clean face

At breakfast this morning there was a "boil your own egg station" that I thought was unique.

Pictured also is what looks like a mallard duck on my walk to the hotel last night. Looks just like the ones in SC to me.

I'll be heading to Lindau, Germany tomorrow night to stay in an Airbnb. Then the tentative plan is to stay in Munich Thursday and Friday nights. But we shall see!

  1. If you have time and the heart Dachau is not far from Munich (if I remember correctly). It was a concentration camp but used more for testing. Of course the Hoffbrau House is a must. I'm enjoying your tour.
