Lindsey from Wisconsin, whom I met in Copenhagen, told me about her love of walking cities she is unfamiliar with. I completely identified with that as a traveler. Walking is one of my favorite things to do. Scratch that. It's my favorite thing to do.
What Lindsey said that I liked even more was, "When I see an open door or an alley I just walk in. If I'm not supposed to be there, then I'll apologize and leave but it usually opens up a neat conversation."
Well, I'm out walking Zurich (and I fired up some David Ramirez on Apple Music which has really helped change my mood) and I walked in such a door. Now, don't get me wrong, this was a door to a place of business, but I was struck by something as I walked past that made me stop and walk in. Once I got it, I noticed many extremely powerful large photos of refugees from Greece(as I later found out). The stories these photos told were incredible. I could see intense amounts of pain and hurt in them. They were simply incredible.
I then noticed a very cool and eclectic collection of books in the store. I really wish I could post pictures but right now something is going on with Blogger. Maybe it's time to go to Wordpress or something.
At any rate, I decided to have a conversation with the lady working the store. Turns out her name is Denise and she was the most delightful person to talk with. She has the perfect personality, in my opinion, to work in a store like that. She let me have my time and was super helpful when I told her I'd like to get a little something. She suggested a book about a hamster which looks hilarious. I'll post a review one day ;)
Thanks Denise for such a wonderful experience and helping me feel connected to this beautiful city!
Zurich is the first place on this trip where I can honestly say I could move here.
